When carefully planned and delivered, peer observations of teaching allow a distinct opportunity for faculty to support and enhance each other’s classroom practice.
The resources on this page accompany workshops led by Dr. Dottie Bauer and Dr. Pru Cuper from the Education Department and Dr. Chris Odato from Faculty Enrichment: “Peer Observation: An Opportunity for Productive Dialog and Development” and “Debriefing Peer Observations: Constructive Conversations for Professional Growth”. They include materials that were distributed at the workshops as well as additional resources that may be valuable to people preparing to participate in peer observations.
The initial workshop,”Peer Observation: An Opportunity for Productive Dialogue and Development”, presented a suggested framework for peer observations that includes a pre-observation meeting to plan the observation and, following the observation, a self-reflection by the instructor being observed prior to the debriefing meeting with the observer.
