Theft & Mutilation

Improper Removal of Library Materials

The Library reserves the right to examine the contents of any backpack, purse, or bag when the security system gate alarm has been activated.  If a library user is discovered to be exiting the building with library materials which have not been properly checked out, or which do not circulate, they will be asked to check out circulating items and/or leave non-circulating items at the circulation desk.  If, in the judgment of the library staff member, the library user deliberately failed to properly check out library materials, the staff member will ask to see the person’s ID, and the person may be charged with a violation of the College Policy.

Mutilation of Library Materials and Property

All incidents of mutilation, vandalism, or otherwise intentionally causing damage to library materials or property will be considered a violation of College Policy

Library’s Response

All cases of deliberate improper removal or mutilation of library property will be reported to the Dean of the Library and the Access Services Manager. The Incident Report form will be used and any evidence gathered should accompany the form. Campus Safety may be contacted as well. The City of Keene Police may also be notified at Campus Safety’s discretion.

If campus safety becomes involved, and determines that a violation of the student conduct policy has occurred the issue may be referred to the office of student conduct for adjudication under the rules of the student code of conduct.  See: “Theft and Damage Policy” and the Student Code of Conduct.
